Yes. You must be physically located in Alaska at the time of your appointment. Psychiatric services in Alaska require that patients be in the state during the visit. This is a legal requirement for telehealth psychiatry in Alaska.
Your first appointment typically lasts 45–60 minutes. We will review your complete psychiatric history, current symptoms, medical history, medications, substance use, family history, and previous treatments. We will discuss your goals and preferences. If appropriate, we may offer a preliminary diagnosis and treatment plan, which may include medication evaluation, additional testing (like QbCheck for ADHD), or referral to therapy.

Conditions & Treatment

We evaluate and treat ADHD, anxiety (generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety), depression (major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder), bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, insomnia, and related conditions. We provide evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care.
Yes. We specialize in ADHD evaluation and treatment for both adolescents and adults. We use a comprehensive assessment approach, including clinical interview, symptom rating scales, and objective testing with QbCheck (computerized attention testing). For more information, see our ADHD page.
A PMHNP is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. PMHNPs are advanced practice registered nurses with specialized training in psychiatry and mental health. They can evaluate, diagnose, and manage psychiatric conditions, including prescribing medications in Alaska. All our providers are licensed PMHNPs or FNPs (Family Nurse Practitioners) with psychiatric expertise.
PMHNPs in Alaska are licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe psychiatric medications, including controlled substances. Our providers will determine whether medication is appropriate for your condition based on a thorough evaluation. Medication is one part of a comprehensive treatment approach and is always discussed with you before being started.
QbCheck is a computerized test that objectively measures attention and impulse control. It is used to support ADHD diagnosis in both children and adults. The test takes about 15 minutes and involves clicking a button in response to patterns on a computer screen. It helps us confirm ADHD and differentiate it from other conditions. For more information, see our ADHD Testing page.
We provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management. We do not provide psychotherapy (talk therapy) directly. However, we work closely with therapists throughout Alaska and can refer you to appropriate providers. Many patients benefit from both medication management and therapy, and we coordinate care with your therapist as needed.

The PCP titration handoff is a model where Wellness Alaska initiates and optimizes psychiatric medication, and then transitions ongoing management to your primary care doctor for continuity of care. This is appropriate for stable, straightforward cases and is discussed with you during treatment. Not all patients are candidates for handoff, and it is always done with your agreement and your PCP's participation.
Yes. We offer ongoing psychiatric care and medication management. Many patients remain with us for long-term follow-up care. The frequency of visits depends on your condition and treatment needs, and is decided together with your provider.
