Step-by-Step Process

Your New Patient Journey

From booking to your first appointment and beyond — here's what happens at each stage.

Book Your Appointment
Schedule online through our patient portal or call (907) 600-5227. No referral needed. New patient appointments are typically available within 1–2 days.
Complete Intake Paperwork
After booking, you'll receive forms covering medical history, psychiatric history, current symptoms, and prior treatments. Complete them thoroughly — your provider reviews this before your visit.
Prepare for Your Visit
Ensure you have a secure internet connection and a private space. You must be physically located in Alaska at the time of your appointment. Have your medication list and insurance information ready.
Initial Evaluation (60 min)
Your provider conducts a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation via secure video. They review your history, current symptoms, functional impacts, and discuss clinical impressions and next steps.
Treatment Plan
If a diagnosis is clear, your provider discusses treatment options including medication, therapy referrals, or both. If more information is needed, additional appointments may be scheduled.
Follow-Up Care
Ongoing medication management as needed. Frequency based on clinical need. We coordinate with your PCP and other providers with your consent.

Before Your Appointment

What to Have Ready

Gather these items before your first visit to ensure the appointment runs smoothly.

• Current medication list (names, doses, how long you've been taking them)
• Prior psychiatric records if available (helpful but not required)
• Insurance card
• A quiet, private space for your video appointment
• A reliable internet connection
• Photo ID

How Telehealth Works

Your Secure Telehealth Appointment

All appointments are conducted via HIPAA-compliant secure video. Our platform is private, encrypted, and designed specifically for psychiatric care. You can join from any device — computer, tablet, or smartphone — as long as you have a reliable internet connection and a private space where you won't be interrupted.

Important: You must be physically located in Alaska at the time of your appointment. This is a requirement for all telehealth services in our practice.

We use IntakeQ, our patient portal, for scheduling appointments, submitting paperwork, secure messaging with your provider, and accessing appointment notes and records. You'll receive login credentials after you book.

Common Questions

New Patient FAQ

That's fine. Prior records can be helpful for context, but they are not required. Your provider will conduct a thorough evaluation during your first appointment, asking detailed questions about your symptom history, when issues started, what you've already tried, and how things have affected you. If records become available later, we can request them and add them to your chart.
The initial evaluation is typically 60 minutes. This gives your provider enough time to take a detailed history, understand your current situation, conduct a mental status examination, and discuss treatment options and next steps.
That depends on the situation. In some cases, having a family member or support person present can be helpful, especially if they can provide additional context about your symptoms. In other cases, it's better to have the conversation one-on-one so you can speak openly without others in the room. We can discuss what works best for you when you book.
We understand that things come up. You can reschedule or cancel through the patient portal or by calling us at (907) 600-5227. We ask for at least 24 hours notice. If you need to cancel or reschedule with less notice, let us know — we're here to be flexible when possible.
We use IntakeQ, which is a HIPAA-compliant patient portal and video platform designed for healthcare. You don't need to download anything — you can join the video appointment directly through a secure link sent to you before your appointment. It works on computer, tablet, and smartphone.
